The origins of Pella Corp. are located in Des Moines, Iowa. That's where in 1925 Pete and Lucille Kuyper invested in a company that produced the Rolscreen retractable screen. The very next year they moved the company down the road about 45 miles to the town of Pella, where its headquarters remain today. In 1934 the manufacturer received a patent for redesigned Venetian blinds and three years later it debuted its first window. Pella's well-known yellow and black logo was introduced in 1988, four years before Rolscreen Co. officially rebranded as Pella Corp. Today, Pella is a more than 10,000 team-member strong manufacturer of doors and windows, with 18 manufacturing locations.

Window and door-maker Pella, which sent representatives out to job sites to talk to the actual installers of its products and quickly noticed a common refrain. About 85% of window installers wanted a version they could put in from the inside, while standing on a floor, rather than the outside, while standing on a ladder.
The resulting Steady Set windows that Pella developed has helped crews cut down on time spent outdoors, extended several feet up off the ground, which comes with inherent dangers. Since its 2024 debut, already 15% of new-construction wood window projects have used the new design, Pella says.
